THE main purpose of the church is to be a place of worship where people can meet regularly to praise God, to learn about Gods love and purpose for His people, and be inspired to work and witness for God in the days that follow.
We are glad to be able to worship God in fellowship with our
friends and we are always happy to welcome newcomers and visitors to our
services, usually at 10.00am and 6.30pm on Sundays.
Our Young Church groups meet while Sunday morning worship is taking place and we also offer creche facilities.
Southlands is one of 21 churches in the York South Circuit so we hear the scriptures explained to us by preachers drawn from a large team of ministers and lay people, in addition to our own minister, the Rev Keith Himsworth.
All-age worship services, using digital projection, are usually held on Sunday mornings at the end of the month and are planned and led by a team comprising minister Keith Himsworth, local preacher Audrey Dent, worship leaders Bob Lawrence and John Whitworth, and a church steward.
This group is also involved in cafe-style worship evenings taking place on occasional Sundays, from 6.30pm to 8.00pm. The aim is to offer worship from 6.30pm to 8.00pm broken up with several mini-sermons or armchair interviews. People are able to come and go when they please, but they are invited to bring a snack. Tea, coffee and squash are available throughout.
The next cafe-style worship evening will be on Sunday, June 15, and this will be led by FLAME, our young adults group, who will also lead morning service on May 11 (Pentecost Sunday).
