THE church holds occasional family lunches, and the next of these will be on April 20.
We also have various social events, some of them to assist with fundraising, and the last of these was held at Southlands on Saturday, March 8. The title of this evening was Northumbrian Saints: A Pilgrimage In Pictures and it was presented by Ron Rumney.
Other events planned include afternoon tea from 3.30pm on Saturday, June 21; our Harvest Extra event at 5.00pm on Saturday, September 27; a concert by the York-based Longhawn Trio at 7.00pm on Saturday, October 11; a church anniversary party at 7.00pm on Saturday, November 22, which will include line-dancing; and a Christmas Festival to take place over two weekends in December.
The Christmas Festival will feature Christmas trees decorated by groups, organisations and, hopefully, local businesses, and also Nativity scenes from around the world.
Our badminton club has been going for more than 28 years. It meets in the Youth & Community Centre at Southlands, starting at 7.30pm on Mondays, and is primarily a social club for church members and friends. In addition to badminton there are some other games available for your leisure.
Our newly-formed Film Club shows films on occasional Saturday evenings.
Southlands has been running a walking club for a good number of years
and the walkers were out and about this summer with a programme of
walks running right through to October.
The walks are held fortnightly on Thursdays, and all are between four and 5½
miles long, attracting about a dozen walkers.
Walks this month are May 1 (at Bilton, near Harrogate), May 15 (at Old Byland), and May 29 (Yorkshire Sculpture Park). Anyone wishing to join the group should speak to Geoff Unthank, Alison White or David Loadman.
Names for each walk should be given to the walk leader, whose name will be in the notice sheet as each walk comes up. Details of transport requirements or offers of seats in cars should be given to walk leaders at the same time. There will be occasional group walks during the winter months.
Working parties meet on the second Tuesday of the month from 6.15pm for odd jobs around the property and, in the summer months, to tend the church gardens.
