JOYCE HEARN has retired from the position of bookstall manager at Southlands after 28 years.

The new manager is Chera Blower, who worked with her for much of last year. She is responsible for selecting cards and books to maintain the bookstall display, handling specific orders from church folk and ensuring that customers get their Bible reading notes in good time.

The profit made on sales goes to church funds.

Joyce, who for many years ran a Christian bookshop in Doncaster with her late husband, Herbert, before moving to York, said she would miss the responsibility. She would especially miss her weekly visits to the Barbican Bookshop (now Wesley Owen) where she was able to spend time browsing through books and cards.

The Southlands bookstall is open for the sale of books after morning and evening services on Sundays. It offers Christian books for adults and children, ranging from true-life stories of Christian pioneers to books to help you with prayer and Biblical knowledge.

Especially important is the supply of Bible reading notes. These are a must for all Christians and help to build up knowledge of the Bible and closer communion with God. Ask Southlands book agent Chera about a book which gives samples of Bible reading notes from 14 different sources to help you find the notes most suitable for you.

Anyone requiring a specific book, Bible, hymn book or song book not on the stall can place an order with Chera and be assured of prompt attention.

In addition to books, there is a wide range of greetings cards available, all with a suitable text or verse of scripture.
